There is no application season and no annual cap, so nothing about the calendar should drive your timing. Readiness should. Applying from abroad you then receive a short-validity entry vignette and must travel inside it, so do not resign or give notice on a flat until the visa decision, not the endorsement.<\/p>\n<h2>Build the evidence pack over months, not weeks<\/h2>\n<p>The strongest cases I have worked on were assembled slowly. Start with one list and two columns: every achievement from the last five years, and the document that proves it. Anything with an empty right-hand column does not exist as far as an assessor is concerned, and the list takes an hour to tell you whether you are applying this quarter or next year.<\/p>\n<p>Then work the gaps deliberately. Six to twelve months is enough to speak at two industry events, publish in trade press, start mentoring, or enter a project for an award. None of that is a trick; it is the ordinary visible output of a senior career that busy people never get round to producing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ask while the relationship is warm.<\/strong> Letters and written confirmations are easy to get from a manager you still work with and awkward from one you left two years ago. If you are about to change jobs, collect first.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Capture proof at the moment it exists.<\/strong> Conference programmes, dated screenshots of dashboards, press coverage saved as PDFs. Links rot and products get shut down.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do not confuse recommendation letters with supporting letters.<\/strong> Supporting letters attached to individual evidence items, such as a project lead confirming what you contributed to a named product, are optional, effective, and almost nobody uses them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ten evidence documents is a ceiling, not a target, at about three A4 pages each. Five items that each prove something specific beat ten circling the same claim, because the assessor forms a view of your judgement alongside your record. The <a href=\"https:\/\/unicornvisa.com\/en\/uk\/global-talent-visa\/scoring\/\">assessment test<\/a> gives a quick read on whether your list is near the bar.<\/p>\n<h2>Decide between Talent and Promise on evidence, not ambition<\/h2>\n<p>The category is a claim you must defend, not a preference you express, and it cuts both ways. Under-claiming is expensive: in digital technology and the arts, Exceptional Talent reaches <a href=\"https:\/\/unicornvisa.com\/en\/articles\/indefinite-leave-to-remain\/\">indefinite leave to remain<\/a> in three years and Promise in five, which is two more years of health surcharge, an extension and conditions on your stay. Over-claiming costs the endorsement fee and several months.<\/p>\n<p>The test I use: given only your evidence pack and no explanation, would a stranger in your field call you a leader in it? If yes, apply for Talent. If they would say &#8220;clearly good, clearly early&#8221;, take Promise and settle two years later rather than lose a year to a refusal. Tech Nation caps it at 1,000 words; treat that as the limit whatever your field. Write it as though the assessor will decide on this document alone. It has three jobs: summarise what your evidence proves, answer why the UK specifically, and say what you will do here.<\/p>\n<p>The middle one is where statements collapse. If an assessor can conclude you could do this work anywhere, they can also conclude the UK gains nothing, and that reasoning refuses applications. Be concrete: name the city or region and why, the sector, the work, and who benefits. Do not restate your CV in prose or spend 200 words admiring British culture.<\/p>\n<h2>Working with your recommenders<\/h2>\n<p>Expect to draft the letters yourself. Senior people are busy and will sign something accurate and well written rather than compose it from scratch. That is normal practice, not a shortcut. What you must avoid is three letters reading as though one person wrote them, because that is what happened and assessors notice.<\/p>\n<p>Give each recommender four weeks, a one-page brief naming the projects you want described, and permission to change anything they disagree with. Ask each to add one thing you left out; the line they write themselves is usually the best in the letter. It should be the other way round.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Breaking the format rules.<\/strong> Too many items, documents past three A4 pages, unreadable screenshots. Assessors will not hunt for your argument.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Untranslated or inconsistent documents.<\/strong> Anything not in English needs a certified translation from a professional agency, submitted with the original. Dates that disagree between CV, letters and evidence read as carelessness.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Evidence that proves the company existed.<\/strong> Impressive employer, impressive product, nothing isolating what you personally did. The commonest substantive weakness.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paying for priority at the wrong stage.<\/strong> The visa decision is rarely the bottleneck. Endorsement is, and you cannot buy past it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What to do while you wait<\/h2>\n<p>Chasing the endorsing body achieves nothing. Use the weeks on whatever would otherwise delay you afterwards.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sort the tuberculosis test<\/strong> if your country requires one. Approved clinics only, and certificates take time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do the money arithmetic.<\/strong> The health surcharge of \u00a31,035 per person per year is paid upfront for the whole visa length, so five years for a family is a large single payment. It names the criteria the assessor considered unmet and why, and that reasoning decides your next move.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If your evidence was misread<\/strong>, request a review of the endorsement decision. It is normally available for about a month afterwards, usually at no cost, and lets you argue point by point against the reasoning. <strong>If evidence was genuinely missing<\/strong>, a review cannot help, because you cannot amend the application or add documents that were not in the original pack. Reapply instead: there is no limit on attempts and no penalty for having been refused, though the fees are payable again.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, do not resubmit the same pack with a new cover letter. A refused endorsement is not a black mark on your immigration record, and unrelated past refusals do not usually affect a Global Talent application unless they involved false information.<\/p>\n<h2>Frequently asked questions<\/h2>\n<h3>How long does the whole process take?<\/h3>\n<p>Six to nine months for most people. Two to six months of that is building the evidence pack, several weeks is endorsement, and roughly three weeks is the visa decision from outside the UK or eight from inside.<\/p>\n<h3>Is there a best time of year to apply?<\/h3>\n<p>No. There is no annual cap and no application window, so the only timing that matters is whether your evidence is ready.<\/p>\n<h3>Can I reapply if I am refused, and how many times?<\/h3>\n<p>As many times as you like. Each attempt costs the fees again, so there is no advantage in reapplying quickly with the same material. The applications that succeed second time are the ones where something real changed in between.<\/p>\n<h3>Do I need a solicitor?<\/h3>\n<p>No. This route does not require legal representation, and plenty of people, including me in 2017, have built successful cases from the official guidance alone. What applicants want help with is judgement: which category to claim, which evidence to lead with, and whether to apply now or in six months.<\/p>\n<h3>Should I apply from inside or outside the UK?<\/h3>\n<p>If you are already here on another route, switching is possible from most categories, but the in-country decision typically takes around eight weeks against three from abroad.
