There is no limit. You can apply for the Global Talent Visa as many times as you like, and once you hold it there is no cap on how many times you extend or on how long you stay in the UK on the route. A refusal does not blacklist you and it does not sit against your name on a future application.
What you pay for each attempt is the fee. Every fresh application means £561 for the endorsement and £205 for the visa again, so £766 in total, plus the Immigration Health Surcharge at the visa stage. Timing costs you too, which is why the decision worth getting right is not whether you can reapply but how.
- An endorsement review makes sense when you believe the assessors misread evidence you had already submitted, or applied the criteria incorrectly. A review generally reconsiders the case as it was put, rather than accepting new material, so check the current guidance for your endorsing body before you choose this path.
- A fresh application makes sense when the case itself was thin: the wrong category, documents that described your job rather than your impact, or letters from people who could not speak to your standing in the field.
Most people who reapply fail the second time for the same reason as the first, because they resubmit the same case with more pages attached rather than a better argument. Before you file again, map every document to a specific point in the published criteria, be honest about which category your record supports, and rebuild your letters of recommendation from scratch if they were generic. My application tips cover the mistakes I see most often.
Renewals work the same way. Each extension is granted for one to five years, there is no maximum number of extensions and no maximum total time on the route. You do not go back through endorsement to extend; you show that you have continued to work and earn in the field you were originally endorsed in, which is the one condition people forget when they drift into a different career.
If you have already been refused once, it is worth having someone read the refusal with you before you spend the fees again. That is what a consultation is for.
