Fast track is an accelerated endorsement decision at stage one of the Global Talent Visa. It gets you an answer from the endorsing body in roughly three weeks instead of the standard eight, and that is all it does. It speeds up the decision; it does not improve your chances, lower the bar or guarantee anything.

You qualify for it by evidencing that you have been accepted onto a current or forthcoming programme at one of the UK accelerator programmes the endorsing body recognises. The recognised list is maintained by the endorsing body and it does change, so check the current guidance before you build a timeline around it.

Nothing else about the application changes:

  • The same criteria apply, and you must still meet the mandatory criterion plus the required number of optional ones.
  • The same evidence documents and recommendation letters are required, to the same standard.
  • The fees are the same: £561 for the endorsement and £205 for the visa, £766 in total.
  • The category you are endorsed under, Exceptional Talent or Exceptional Promise, is decided on the merits exactly as it would be otherwise.

Fast track also has no effect on stage two. Once endorsed, your visa application to the Home Office has its own timings, generally around three weeks for a decision from outside the UK and around eight weeks from inside. Paid priority services are sometimes available at the visa stage depending on where you apply, but they are a separate thing from fast track, so check what is offered at your application centre.

My honest advice is not to shape your plans around it. If you are already joining a recognised accelerator, take the faster decision, it costs you nothing. If you are not, the weeks you might save are trivial compared with the months you lose to a refusal, and that time is far better spent on the evidence itself.
